What is an ERP?

Enterprise Resource Planning is a software or computer program that offers companies the possibility of integrating and automating all their routine processes on a single platform.

If you decide to incorporate an ERP in your SME, these are some of the advantages it can bring to your business:

  • Flexibility: it allows to adapt to the needs of any company thanks to its configuration, since it offers the possibility to customize and meet the needs of each one.

  • Efficiency: it improves the productivity of companies by registering many tasks on a single platform, which can also be performed automatically, saving a lot of time and achieving good results.

  • Coordination: it offers the possibility of connecting in the same system all the actors involved in a production process, thus facilitating communication and the identification of each department of your SME.

  1. Evaluate your needs and objectives: the first thing you should do is to be clear about which parts of your company you want to start managing with an ERP. To do this, draw up a list in which you indicate which aspects you want to collect or improve thanks to this tool. These can be marketing, finance, logistics or sales, among others.

Research and select the right ERP: although on the Internet you can find a multitude of options to acquire an ERP, we recommend that you invest all the time necessary to investigate which is the platform that best suits the needs of your business. This will depend on the type of information to be managed, its capacity, whether they are more complete or simple programs and their complexity of use.

  3. Plan how the implementation process will be: this step consists of making an approximation of the time you will need to start using the platform. Also, the budget that will be necessary to invest to implement the tool in your business. Remember that there are many options on the market with different prices, but you can also find tools that offer the possibility of making a customized budget according to the needs of each company.

  4. Configure and customize your ERP: at this point, once the system is installed, you will have to start configuring it. This refers to sharing all your databases in this tool to be able to collect all the information in one place. You will be able to customize the visualization and its organization the way you like so that you feel as comfortable as possible when storing and manipulating all your data.

  5. Evaluate and improve your system: Finally, you will have to constantly test to make sure that the program works and that it fits perfectly with the needs of your SME. It is important that you carry out these evaluations on an ongoing basis to detect if there are any aspects to improve or if any problems have arisen. Remember that you can contact the platform's technical service to help you find the best possible solution.
