Following the completion of the 2021 aid aimed at research and development projects in artificial intelligence, Red.es has launched a new call aimed at promoting the development and adoption of AI solutions by Spanish businesses.

This call seeks to encourage the adoption of AI-based solutions and to boost their integration into value chains, thereby positioning Spain as a reference in technological innovation at the European level.

It is structured under two major axes:

  1. Enhance technological development and innovation in artificial intelligence.
  2. Promote the incorporation of AI and other dual technologies into industrial and business value chains.

But what are its main technical features?

 

Regulatory framework:

The aid is governed by the provisions of Order ECE/1301/2019, of 17 December, ("BOE" No. 8, of 9 January 2020, pages 1988 to 2011) and its amendment, Order ETD/857/2021, of 28 July, ("BOE" No. 187, of 6 August 2021, pages 97088 to 97092) (hereinafter, the "Regulatory Bases").

 

Purpose of the call

Funding will be provided for experimental development projects which include at least one of the following types:

  1. Creation of prototypes.
  2. Conducting pilots.
  3. Testing and validation of new or improved products, processes, or services in representative environments of real operating conditions.

Additionally, these projects must be based on the following technologies:

  • Artificial intelligence technologies, such as high-performance computing, cloud and edge computing, data analysis technologies, computer vision, language processing, machine learning, object recognition.

  • Advanced connectivity, navigation, and digital technologies.

  • Cybersecurity technologies and safety systems.

  • Internet of Things and virtual reality.

  • Advanced sensing technologies.

  • Space technologies.

  • Robotics and autonomous systems.

  • Advanced materials and manufacturing technologies.

 

Budget and regional distribution

The total budget allocation for the aid amounts to 130 million euros, segmented by autonomous communities according to their level of development:

  1. €43,000,000 for the less developed autonomous communities: Andalucía, Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura, Autonomous City of Ceuta, Autonomous City of Melilla.

  1. €40,000,000 for those in transition: Principality of Asturias, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Valencian Community, Galicia, Region of Murcia, and La Rioja.

  1. €47,000,000 for the more developed: Aragón, Catalonia, Navarra, Community of Madrid, Basque Country.

 

The minimum budget for projects seeking funding will be €400,000 and the maximum €5,000,000.

 

On the other hand, the intensity of the aid will be as follows:

  • Experimental development: small company 45%, medium company 35%, other companies 25%.

  • Experimental development with widespread dissemination of results, according to Regulation (EU) No. 651/2014 of the Commission, of June 17, 2014, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2023/1315 of the Commission of June 23, 2023: small company 60%, medium company 50%, other companies 40%.

  • Experimental development taking place in one of the least developed regions or in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, according to Regulation (EU) No. 651/2014 of the Commission, of June 17, 2014, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2023/1315 of the Commission of June 23, 2023: small company 60%, medium company 50%, other companies 40%.

Application deadline and procedure:

The application period has already partially started for RedIA and will end on September 30 at 12:00 noon.
